Fajr

Hey Love! I’m Fajr, kind of like the middle child of this Loving Our Look crew. I’m also the only one who “big chopped” as well and as ofSeptember 1, 2017 I am the loc'd natural of this trio (but check out our youtube for those deets).  But let’s get more into who I am personally.

I am Fajr (obviously, right?), a God-fearing, 20 something (lol) year old born and raised in New Jersey.  I have a Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in Sociology from Virginia State University, the BEST HBCU ever (all of us HBCU people say that lol) and I have a Masters in Social Work (M.S.W.) from Monmouth University.  I know, I know how did I go from a HBCU (historically black college and universities) to a PWI (predominantly white institution).   Well since we are getting to know one another let me share.  HBCU’s are constantly attacked stating that they are not important or they don’t learn as much as the students at PWI’s.  I went to a PWI after graduating from my HBCU to show and prove that “I” a HBCU alumni can keep up with other students who went to PWI’s and be a successful social worker.  While I was there I was also able to educate people about HBCU's because a lot of my classmates did not even know what it was so it was MY HONOR. (Plus I had the best cohort EVER)  I graduated from Monmouth University with a GPA over 3.5.  So yes, your girl “kept up”(lol).  But now, I am currently employed full time working with individuals that have disabilities and mental health diagnoses.

July 1st, 2016 I became a wife to a Sickle Cell warrior Michael, who also has a Youtube as well (LifeTV) where he shares his life while dealing with Sickle Cell.  Sickle Cell is a huge part of my day to day life. From being an individual with the Sickle Cell trait, a wife to a Sickle Cell warrior, Sickle Cell awareness is important to me.  If you want to learn about it or see how he lives his daily life feel free to go watch his videos, besides I may make an appearance or two.  (lol)

For as long as I can remember I have always had a “thing” for writing, creating, and anything that would push me to think outside of the box.  I wish I could tell you all that this is my “first rodeo” (blog) however I have had a couple of blogs because I enjoy documenting things and looking back to see how far I have come.  Besides writing, I love dancing, listening to music, and spending time with people who have good energy.  So it is a no brainer to have a blog along with 2 people whose energy I enjoy, while I write about things I love. Growing up with the “nappiest” hair I hated my hair for a long time, I was even more upset my mother would not let me get a “perm”.  However, contemplating between a fro or locs I decided to rock my hair natural again after having a perm for 4 years (those years were my college years lol).  But then I decided enough was enough it was the start of trying to love myself.

So here we are today, each day working towards not only loving my hair but loving my look entirely.  From struggling to eat right and maintain my weight, to fighting with my hair, to being a newlywed, to turning my apartment into a home, join me on this journey as I share with you my experiences with hopes you share with me too.  Besides, I am far from perfect I'm just learning to be my best.

Let's Chat Later.....
